ARGENTINE Model 98k Mauser bolt-action rifle # 011923 (8x57mm) mfg. by F.M.A.P. (Rosario) in 1951. Someone (likely back in Argentina) went through a LOT of trouble and expense to create a German 98k look-alike from a 1909/47 Cavalry carbine. First they re-barrelled the action with an 8mm 98k barrel, then they replaced the bolt with a 98k bolt, dropped the action into a new beech Kriegsmodell stock, then added all other German 98k parts and a new reproduction 98k sling. Why they did not blue the receiver (which is still "in the white") is anyone's guess, but they otherwise did a very good job creating a replica 98k. Excellent condition overall, no matching serial numbers, National Crest above chamber very bold. Bore is very strong and mirror-bright, has front sight hood but no cleaning rod (stock was never drilled to accept one). An extreme oddity, NOT import-marked. PHOTOS . . . $800. C&R
